Abstract
According to the Gloyd and Paik et al. Korean Agkistrodon species were divided into three species; Agkistrodon blomhoffii brevicaudus, Agkistrodon caliginosus and Agkistrodon saxalilis. But their histopathologic effects of venoms were not well known. An experimental study was carried out on the effects of venoms of Korean Agkistrodon species by injection of lyophilirzed venom to the mouce back skin and observed sequentially from 3 hours to 7 days by histopathological methods. Following results were obtained; 1. There types of venoms in Korean Agkistrodon species induced similar histologic pattern, showing marked hemorrhage and edema accompanying vascular dilatation and damage to the vascular wall with fibrin deposition in their lumen. Myolysis was also seen in local injection site. later crusts were formed in the surface by coagulated collagen, fibrin, blood and necrotic muscular tissue, accompanying inflammatory reaction in lower dermis and underwent reparative processes. 2. Other organs, such as live and kidney showed mild congestion, and in lung were seen mild congestion and focal hemorrhage. In spleen were seen mild decrease of blood content in red pulp. Fibrin and microvascular thrombi were not noted. 3. Therefore, effects of venoms of the Korean Agkistrodon species were considered to be mainly hematoxic in its toxic nature.
